Just shipped three pieces to a show in NJ..."Alumni of the Barn: Phase Two". The "phase two" refers to the years these students studied at the Barn Studio of Art in Millville , NJ under Patt Witt. I studied there every Friday night 7-10 from 7th grade to HS graduation. Lucky for me ,the social activities at school were held on Saturdays. (no Friday night lights in NJ) I loved my time there. We were exposed to everything under the sun.....painting in all mediums, paper making, pottery, sculpture..nature walks...outings to the marshes & beaches...the Philadelphia Museum of Art....it goes on..
Patt Witt had close ties with the faculty at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts ..."the Academy" .She had been a student and remained in close contact with them. As a result, we were exposed to the best of guest instructors.
Patt taught painting in the manner of the great masters. Even as my work has developed over time to abstract and colorfield, I think the incorporation of thin layers reflects this process.
I will not be able to attend the opening on March 20 but if you are reading this in the southern NJ area stop in to see the show. at the Riverfront Renaissance Center in Millville. All the details are on my news and calendar pages. "The Barn" now has a website I'm so excited to be a part of this show.
